Five Files for use with WinFlash

1. BruderSchwester.fls

This deck offers a sense-line version of the German text, the principal
parts of the verbs found in that text, English equivalents of other
German parts of speech, and an English "transwording" of the German.
This last was composed with the hope that it would be more useful to
the beginning student than a polished translation. The "transwording" is
not proposed as an ideal end-product. It is a pedagogical assist -- no
more than that.

The overall idea is to minimize the thumbing of dictionaries and
grammars, and make it possible for the student to concentrate on
studying and repeating the German text. My own experience is that I
more easily remember the meaning of words when I have learned them
within a specific context. Perhaps this is also true, in some measure at
least, for others.

2. BruSchQuiz1.fls

This is one example of a testing procedure. It requires the student to
fill in the blank, i.e., to type in the correct German answer. This file
is devoted to German verbs. A second file might deal with nouns,
adjectives. adverbs, etc.

3. - 5. BruSchPPV1.fls - BruSchPPV3.fls

Almost all these verbs were found in Brderchen und Schwesterchen. They
are the usual kinds: strong, weak, reflexive, with separable prefixes,
etc. The Question Panel gives the present infinitive and present
indicative of a verb. The student is asked to type in the simple past
and past participle, e.g. sah, gesehen

If the student is not inclined to fill in the blanks by using the
keyboard, he or she can step through the successive pairs by using the
<Enter Key>.

Two years ago I decided to learn how to read German. I knew that I would
have to do most of the learning by myself, whence the interest in
pedagogical technique. Since I am an amateur at this kind of thing, I
ask your help in correcting whatever mistakes are found in these files.
I hope that they are not many. If you find something that ought to be
corrected, or have other suggestions, please get in touch with me by
email, viz.,

Thank you for considering this material.
